Welcome
If one is looking for Literature, you don't need to go far on deviantART. There is a large community of writers and a plethora of work to peruse. Featuring genres such as fantasy, mystery, horror, and romance, one would be hard-pressed to find an area not covered. However, due to the nature of the site, shorter works tend to get more focus. It's easier to quickly read a poem or a short story, and thus many of the feature articles on dA showcase those works. However, there are many novelists and serial writers among the mix, oftentimes fighting an uphill battle to have their works seen and appreciated.
With that in mind, I have started an article to spotlight some of those artists and their literary-worlds. The works covered in this feature will exclusively be long-form fiction such as novels, trilogies, etc., or fiction serials.

Current Stop - Silver City
Our fourth stop on our Literary journey is the modern day metropolis of Silver City, where vampires and mythical creatures dwell, a place where adventure, horror, and romance abounds. Welcome to the world of Nocturne Eternus created by Jessica Gaude (*Destinyfall) and featured in the "Vampire King."
What better way to find out what a book is about than reading the back cover. Grab the virtual paperback and flip it over to see what The Vampire King is about...
"Walking among us are creatures of the likes you have never seen nor have been allowed to see. I am one of these creatures. Though, creature hardly fits my description. I am the lord of darkness, keeper of shadows that seek you in the dark of night, I am the prince of blood. You shall see me as desire hidden deep within your soul and the sinful grin upon your lips when you awaken from my kiss. A Vampire, yes you may call me that, though blood is not the only thing I sup when the moon is high. My Kingdom rises again slowly but one thing alludes me still, my Queen. Lost by the hand of a hero, she sleeps within a human vessel now, waiting for me to reawaken her. I shall have her back... at any cost."
“Though he was evil and wickedness formed into a man, his beauty was unmatched. To look at his face was to look into the night and all that was perfect therein. This, however, was a disguise to what rotted within him, for beauty at times could be only skin deep. Most who saw him did not live to tell, but his followers would proclaim his beauty and perfection as they died: Hair that was as black as the starless sky, skin as pale as the moon and eyes that flickered as blue flame". - Ljuself chronicler
Excerpts
Of course, the best way to learn about a Literary World is to visit it yourself. Here are some works from series, Nocturne Eternus, to help whet your appetite.

The Vampire King Part oneAnguish resonated through my being as I watched her life slowly pass from her eyes. The pain was beyond that which I could perceive and so I felt no more in that moment. I lifted my eyes to the gallant hero who stood with sword in hand and halo overhead. His face placid and cold like the body of the maiden who would never again smile, never again laugh. A spike of emotion ripped the shield of my heart and surprised me with its force. Tears came without warning, despair, sorrow and rage waged a war within my soul for dominance. All the coldness in my heart had melted away in her arms and now I would have to know that coldness again... forever.

Vampire King 2 (Chapter one-part one)Prologue
Confessions
(Cassy's Diary)
Dear Diary, It's been exactly two months since I found out I was pregnant, well, two months and seven days. Mael neglected to tell me for a week that I was pregnant. I know that sounds strange, that my (almost husband) would be the one to know before me but obviously my life is not normal anymore. I did finally call my mother and tell her about Mael, she really wants to meet him. I did not tell her about the twins however or that fact he is a vampire, obviously.
It's not that I am ashamed that I got pregnant before getting married it's just that my mother will be... weird about it. I have le

Vampire King 2 Chapter 36Chapter Thirty-Six
Abby felt like she was in shock. She kept trying to rationalize what she had seen but her brain wouldn't accept it as real or a dream. Had she really stabbed one of those creatures with a piece of doorframe?! What the hell was she thinking? It was as if she had no fear at all. She felt almost at home with the idea of it. the way she had done it was... planned? It was the same feeling she had after the academy. When faced with the situation she had trained for, she simply flowed with the instinct that kicked in from training. That's how this felt.
Were these memories from her previous life? If so, she wanted to be fully re
Vampire King Art
Literary Universes are worlds created out of words on pages, but many authors now expand beyond that. Creating or commissioning art of their characters and settings is a way to help enrich the reading experience for their fans, as well as help inspire the creators themselves. We asked the creators to pick out three of their favorite pieces and tell us why they are so special to them.
Honestly, I don't have a lot to say about why these are special to me. I chose the above pieces from my own art because they explained the first story, feeling-wise, the best.
"Tell me with your own lips what you think I am, who you think I am. I want to hear you say it.” -Mael
Interview
The second-best way to learn about a literary work is to talk to the creator. Jessica Gaude was nice enough to sit down for a Q&A about her series and other works.
I am Jessica Gaude, author of The Vampire King and the Nocturne Eternus series. When I am not writing, my occupation is that of a freelance artist and jewelry maker
I have always wanted to get my stories out there. I used to draw little comics when I was about five years old or whenever I was old enough to hold a pen. It wasn't until we got our first computer that I started actually novelizing my stories. They were terribly done because I had no concept of proper English or writing. My mother home schooled me and my brother and literally gave up halfway through. I taught myself how to properly write or as properly as I could lol. I mess up every once in a while but I figure I still need practice.
It's basically about a royal, ancient, family of vampires, going from father to sons and down the line from there. It's about personal struggle, segregation , self loathing, life, but in a paranormal setting. What it would be like to be immortal and hated or feared. To be guilty of terrible crimes you once thought justified. There is comedy and romance and fun... because I can't keep things too grim.
The Vampire King novel, the first in the Nocturne Eternus series, was actually a fluke. The original story takes place in a fantasy world far far back in the past and the Vampire King kind of came about by accident. Mael has always been a very popular character since I began drawing him, though at the time he was nothing more than a villain. So, I thought people might enjoy a short little series about him in modern times. Well, the story, though BADLY done, was incredibly popular! I kept rewriting it until I got it right and basically he became an anti-hero. The story went from cliché to a story about changing one's destiny and the power of love and good over evil. Kind of a beauty and the beast vibe but more about inner ugliness rather than outer ugliness.
Actually its easy right now. Mael and Adrian are my favorites. Why? I'll start with Mael. He is everything I am not lol He is rich, powerful, attractive, spontaneous, child-like and absolutely foul tempered. I love him because when he was bad, he was really bad, he was a literal villain and he was powerful and justified it. When he is good, he is very good and very sweet. He is my muse, he is like part of me. It feels as if he is always there with a clever remark to make. He just does what he wants when he wants and I wish I could be more like him.
Adrian is my other favorite because he is the hero and yet he is more a villain in many ways. Mael is warm or hot with everything he does. Adrian is cold and calculating. Adrian is also mental, he has tons of personality disorders from his past traumas and it makes him really interesting to write. He is a half-breed, half human and half vampire and Mael's half brother. In the Vampire King, Adrian's role is the villain, where as in the prequel I am going to write next and in the sequel, he is the hero. Adrian's saving grace is a young girl he takes in, who pretty much gives him something to live for. Which is the story going on now; Hunter's moon.
I have gotten a lot of nice compliments but the ones that mean the most are the ones that go; This really made my day! Or, I really look forward to your stories each week! Those comments make me feel really good. I'm so glad I can bring joy with my stories.
It slowly progresses to more readers or views each week, though I notice the sex scenes get more views and chapters with cover pictures get more views lol
I've gone through so many in my head! I don't honestly know. Mael is very particular looking, it would be nearly impossible to get a perfect actor for him but a lot of times I like to put Gerard butler on the top of the list and Adrian... I don't even know, maybe Travis Fimmel for Adrian.
I did a story that was actually published (self published) with a friend, which I will not give the name of. I have about a million other stories I am always working on little by little.
Being in a world that's not the one I'm living in lol
To one day get it published.
If you love to write, do it. Even if you are not good at it, keep trying. Never give up on your dream, always strive to be better. When I started I was borderline dyslexic but now I get compliments everyday on my writing and I take them to heart so I know the next time I need to struggle through something, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Study, research, work hard. Thank you for reading.
