Naruto Sannin Pixel - Contest Prizeby `mirz-alt

Jiraya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru

This is a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG overdue prize for =jesterry for winning the 1st Relativity contest last year. (Yes, "bad Mirz, bad bad Mirz.")

Well, I have to tell you, there really is no excuse for how long this took me, but I'll give a bit of one anyway. First of all, a year ago I wasn't nearly as good of a doller and every time I started this, it was awful. I was very caught up on doing things like everyone else and failing. Since then, I feel I have found my dolling style and I am confident and comfortable with it (even though I am told often by dollers I'm "doing it wrong.") My style is a hybrid, which I call comic-book shading. It incorporates a lot of cell-shading and darker outlines, like a comic, but also incorporates some more traditional pixel shading methods. I actually really love it.

Of course, another reason for the delay was that I ended up having a baby.

That said, another problem I ran into was the fact I am totally NOT familiar with these characters. I had to look at dozens of refs, read up on the characters and generally do many hours of research to get the clothing right. Then the general pixelling itself took an enormous amount of time. Plus, I even made 2 separate pixel patterns for the snakes scales (the first one ended up too big). This was the most intimidating dolling I've ever done! Seriously, I have been working on this on-and-off for 5 months and have clocked well over 40 hours into the set.

In the end, I'm happy how they came out. The face edits really took me a while and I did my best to make them as close to the characters as I could in doll form. I'm actually happy how I managed to translate Tsunade's anime eyes. If they're looks aren't perfect, I apologize, but I did TRY!

A big THANK-YOU to =jesterry for entering the contest and being so patient with this. I'm sure she thought she'd never see it! But I was determined and I am happy how it turned out. Now I owe her a few emotes of these characters, which I think will be quite a bit easier.
