*** Sorry for the wall of text, but I ramble...as most of you probably know. ***In my early 20s, I created my main OC, Sara Wolf/Dark Flame. She was a Mary Sue. She was a fan character. She was the long-lost cousin of Bruce Wayne. She eventually married Dick Grayson/Nightwing. *sigh*
Thing is, as much as the set-up was Sue-ish, the stories weren't. Sara went on to join a group of superheroes apart from the bat family. She made her own name and identity--got her own rogues gallery. Batman was in the background, an integral part of her history, but not ever-present. Her marriage to Dick ended only after a couple of years. They were young and immature and it broke them up. After that, they hated each other. I loved their relationship because it was complicated. Literally, people cringed when they were in the same room together because it always ended in a screaming match. Of course, everyone knew they still secretly cared for each other, but they were both too stubborn and pig-headed to give. It made good drama.
Anyhow, as I am working on the Relativity universe, I'm laying to rest these old stories and relationships, but I still can't help but be nostaligic. After Sara divorced Dick, she ended up remarrying and truly loving her new husband. Though, tragedy hit and she eventually found herself alone again. Dick & Sara eventually did re-unite, but 10-12 years later, after they both were much more adults than kids.
I have been wanting to do a doll of Dick & Sara for a while. I titled it so (rather than their superhero names) because in our gaming and afterwards, that was always how they were referred to. It is amusing though. In my last revamp of that DC based universe, shortly after our RPGing ended, Sara never did get back together with Dick. Instead, she married another superhero, falling desperately in love and realizing what a healthy relationship was. So funny to see how the story changed from the version I wrote in my 20s to the version written in my late 30s.
This is a scene that takes place after Sara's second marriage ends. She goes through a deep period of mourning. It's during that time that their animosity towards each other softens a bit. They still have tension, but this is a turning point for Sara...and ultimately Dick.
Doll-wise, I'm happy with this. Again, just doing what feels good. Totally different technique on Sara's hair this time, and I like it. Still heavily doing my "comicbook" coloring/shading. Also, I'm happy because I'm getting braver with contrast and colors.
